[01] IMO MEETING - OIL SPILL - ACTION PLAN - CYPRIOT MINISTER
Án international meeting organized in Piraeus, Greece, by the
International Maritime Organization (IMO) and the UN Environment
Programme (UNEP) to coordinate efforts to address the pollution
resulting from the oil spill that threatens the eastern Mediterranean,
adopted an action plan to be implemented immediately.
In statements upon his arrival from Greece, Cyprus Minister of
Agriculture, Natural Resources and Environment Fotis Fotiou who
attended the meeting, described it as a very constructive one, which
yielded important results.
Fotiou said that Cyprus had proposed a certain action plan with
deadlines, a proposal that was accepted since an action plan was set up
and its implementation begins immediately.
[02] SPOKESMAN - JULY 8TH AGREEMENT
The Cyprus government attaches great importance to the implementation
of the July 8th agreement between Cypriot President Tassos Papadopoulos
and Turkish Cypriot leader Mehmet Ali Talat, without any preconditions,
Deputy Minister to the President and Government Spokesman Christodoulos
Pashiardes has said.
Asked whether a meeting between the two leaders will take place, he
said that the July 8th agreement provides that they will meet from time
to time to give guidance to bicommunal working teams of experts and to
review the work of the technical committees.
