[01] CYPRUS FM - RUSSIA - CYPRUS QUESTION
Greek Foreign Minister Dora Bakoyiannis discussed the Cyprus question
with US Undersecretary of State for Political Affairs Nicholas Burns
and with the Secretary of the Russian Security Council Igor Ivanov.
Bakoyiannis told the press that he discussed with Burns and Ivanov
mainly about the forthcoming visit to UN Undersecretary for Political
Affairs Ibrahim Gambari to Cyprus and for the EU positions, outlined by
Brussels European Council and reiterated almost every day by all
competent persons, Commissioners, Foreign Ministers or the Presidency.
She added that the positions regarding the enlargement are particularly
explicit as regards the Ankara protocol and noted that the EU expects
by Turkey within 2006 to honour its signature and implement the Ankara
Protocol a position which the EU does not intend to quit.
Replying to a question, the Greek FM said it is difficult for her to
speak about the prospects.
