  • [01] GREEK AND CYPRIOT FMs - CYPRUS QUESTION

Greek and Cypriot Foreign Ministers Dora Bakoyiannis and George Lillikas agreed here today that the two countries will continue to cooperate closely for achieving a viable, functional and just solution to the Cyprus problem.

Lillikas held Thursday a series of contacts in Athens, in his first visit to Greece after his appointment as Cyprus` Foreign Minister. He had talks with Bakoyiannis, while he was received by Greek President Karolos Papoulias and had separate meetings with Development Minister Demetris Sioufas and opposition PASOK leader George Papandreou.

In statements after their meeting both Bakoyiannis and Lillikas underlined that there is no difference in Greece`s and Cyprus` strategic goals.

    [02] SPOKESMAN - PROPERTIES - ``COMMITTEE``

Government Spokesman Christodoulos Pashiardis has described the decisions taken by the so called committee for compensation and restoration of the Greek Cypriot property set up by the puppet regime in Cyprus Turkish occupied areas as regards the properties of three Greek Cypriots in the Turkish-occupied, since 1974, part of Cyprus as ``a negative development,`` adding that there is no legal way for the government to prevent this ``unfortunate development.``

The so called committee has announced that it will return the properties of two Greek Cypriots in occupied Akanthou, while it will give compensation to a third Greek Cypriot, without specifying the figure to be granted.

``This development is negative because it offers the Turkish side the capacity to claim before the European Court of Human Rights that it has fulfilled the Court`s demand to introduce an effective internal remedy to secure the respect of the Greek Cypriot refugees` right to property,`` Pashiardis said.
