[01] PAPADOPOULOS - EUROPEAN COUNCIL
Cypriot President Tassos Papadopoulos said he was satisfied with the
final conclusions approved in Brussels Friday by the 25 EU leaders
during their summit, calling on Turkey to fulfill its obligations under
the Association Agreement and its Additional Protocol, which include
opening its ports and airports to Cyprus.
Speaking at a press conference at the end of the European Council,
President Papadopoulos further said that Cyprus` aim is not to
interrupt Turkey`s European course but to have it continued, under the
inviolable condition that it will fully respect its obligations towards
the EU.
[02] CYPRUS - MONTENEGRO`S INDEPENDENCE
Cyprus has recognised de jure Montenegro`s independence, with a letter
sent by Cypriot Minister of Foreign Affairs George Lillikas to his
Montenegrin counterpart Miodrag Vlahovic.
In his letter, Lillikas says that the Republic of Cyprus has recognised
Montenegro as an independent state after the official declaration of
independence by the parliament of the country on 3 June 2006.
``This development reflects the result of the referendum of 21 May
2006, which expresses the will of the people of Montenegro for an
independent state, which came about according to the establishment act
of the State Union of Serbia and Montenegro,`` he adds.
