Central Bank of Cyprus Governor Christodoulos Christodoulou pointed out the need to utilise to the greatest possible extent the new reality that has been created with Cyprus` accession to the European Union and Exchange Rate Mechanism II.

Opening the new regional offices of the Bank of Cyprus in the United Kingdom, at Southgate, Christodoulou said ``our course and activity in the huge financial area of the EU of the common currency will certainly not be without difficulties and problems.``

Christodoulou referred to the development of ``multiple and significant`` commercial, economic and social ties with the United Kingdom, adding that ``undoubtedly the presence of British banks in Cyprus and Cypriot banks in the United Kingdom has contributed and will continue to contribute to the expansion and strengthening of economic cooperation and the further enhancement of bonds between the two countries.``

He added that the Central Bank of Cyprus ``will contribute, always in close cooperation with the British Financial Services Authority, to the smooth and efficient operation and the further constant growth of the Bank of Cyprus in Britain.``
