[01] RUSSIA - UN - CYPRUS PROBLEM
The Cyprus problem was one of the international problems discussed at a
meeting in Moscow between Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei
Lavrov and UN Undersecretary General for Political Affairs Ibrahim
Gambari.
According to a press release issued by the Russian Ministry of Foreign
Affairs, apart from the UN reform and the question of Iran, the
situation in Cyprus, the Middle East and Iraq were analysed, and the
necessity for a UN role in a political settlement was pointed out.
Lavrov viewed as positive the proposals of the UN Secretary General to
strengthen the mediation activity in the context of the UN, the press
release says.
