Italy supports international efforts to reach a Cyprus settlement
Nicosia, Sep 30 (CNA) - Italy monitors with the greatest attention the
Cyprus question and assures that it shall continue to try hard, in
concert with the Cyprus government and the other interested countries,
supporting international efforts aimed at finding a solution, new
Ambassador of Italy Luigi Napolitano stated today, presenting his
credentials to the President of the Republic Tassos Papadopoulos.
Replying, the Cypriot President noted that the continued occupation of
Cyprus by Turkey cannot be relegated into a non-issue in the relations
between Turkey and the EU, adding that a candidate country cannot
refuse to extend to a member state treatment equal to that accorded to
the rest of the Union's members.
