According to the illegal police in the Turkish occupied north, the boat, believed to be carrying 37 asylum seekers and two-member crew, sank off some 3.5 km near Yalousa on the eastern tip of the occupied areas. Matsakis is implicated in two separate incidents, the first being a case of alleged blackmail of a police officer and the second the illegal possession of antiquities that allegedly came from the Turkish occupied north.
