    Athens to spare no effort in Cyprus settlement, says Greek FM

    United Nations, Sep 20 (CNA) Greece will spare no efforts towards the ultimate goal for Cyprus which remains an agreed solution between the two parties on the island, on the basis of the UN Secretary Generals plan, the relevant Security Council resolutions and in conformity with the EU principles and acquis, pledged the countrys Minister of Foreign Affairs Petros Molyviatis.

    Addressing the 60th session of the UN General Assembly, Molyviatis also said that Greece is ready to work towards building the necessary common ground, which will render possible the re-launching of meaningful negotiations.

    Ukraine-Cyprus Business Forum to take place in Limassol

    Nicosia, Sep 20 (CNA) -- A Ukraine-Cyprus Business Forum will take place September 26-27, 2005, at the southern coastal town of Limassol.

    A press release issued by the Embassy of Ukraine to Cyprus said the Forum will be held with support of the Ukrainian National Committee of the International Chamber of Commerce and Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

    EU preliminary agreement on counterstatement

    Brussels, Sep 20 (CNA) -- A spokesman of the EU British Presidency has said EU member states have reached a preliminary agreement on an EU counterstatement to a unilateral declaration by Turkey that it does not recognize the Republic of Cyprus.

    The agreement is expected to be finalized today at the EU Agriculture and Fisheries Council.

    Cyprus Permanent Representative in Brussels Nicos Emiliou told CNA that the British Presidency has submitted to the Cyprus government a proposal, which is examined, and Nicosia will give its response Tuesday.

    Cyprus FM continues meetings in New York

    Nicosia, Sep 20 (CNA) -- Cyprus Foreign Minister George Iacovou has expressed to his Azeri counterpart Cyprus protest to a series of actions by Azerbaijan's government, during a meeting they had Monday in New York.

    According to an official press release, Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan expressed the will of improving the relations between the two countries and the two Ministers agreed to a procedure on a diplomatic level and that they will meet again in December at Ljubljana, Slovenia, in the framework of the OSCE Ministerial Conference.

    Nicosia, Sep 20 (CNA) - Cyprus Antiquities Department has made, via Cyprus Foreign Ministry, representations to international organisations for the protection of monuments and for the destruction of an archaeological site at the north-eastern Apostolos Andreas cape, which the Turkish occupation army flattened in order to pave a road and erect two flag masts for the flags of Turkey and the pseudostate.
