    Investigations into new air crash start

    Larnaca, Sep 11 (CNA) Foreign Minister George Iacovou has expressed his condolences to the families of the of the two military personel who lost their lives Saturday when their two seater PC-9 crashed at the village of Kolossi in the coastal town of Limassol.

    The small training plane crashed on a newly built house setting it on fire, but according to a police press release the two people who were inside working were not hurt.

    Speaking at Larnaca Airport upon departure for New York, Iacovou expressed his deep sorrow, condolences and sympathy to the relatives and the National Guard for the loss, noting that ''this was a truly painful summer for Cyprus and its people''.

    Meanwhile two experts of the Hellenic Airforce are already here, at the invitation of Defence Minister Kyriakos Mavronicolas to assist investigations into the causes of the new air crash.

    The two Greek experts have started this morning investigations at the area of the crash and will be consulting the Investigative Committee, which was set up after the incident including of Cypriot Military Personnel. Members of the Investigative Committee for Airplane Accidents of Cyprus will also offer assistance.

    Cyprus FM: Efforts on EU counter-statement

    Nicosia, Sep 11 (CNA) -- Cypriot Minister of Foreign Affairs George Iacovou said the government is continuing efforts and negotiations for the adoption of an EU counter-statement as a respond to Turkey' s unilateral declaration of not recognising the Republic of Cyprus, which will protect Cypriot interests.

    He predicted that ''soon, maybe this week a discussion could start on the EU-Turkey's negotiating framework''.

    Iacovou speaking at Larnaca airport on his departure New York Iacovou said ''we evaluated the situation as it seems from the 24 other capitals and our position although there are still problems is to continue negotiating as it is a usual practice in EU seeking for agreements and allies''.
