Anorthosis advances to Champions League third qualifying round

Nicosia, Aug 3 (CNA) - Cypriot refugee football club Anorthosis of Turkish-occupied Famagusta advances to the Champions League third qualifying round, after disqualifying Turkish Trabzonspor in the first meeting of Turkish and Cypriot football clubs on European level ever.

Trabzonspor won the second leg of the second qualifying round with 1-0. In the first leg in Nicosia Anorthosis beat the Turkish team 3-1.

Trabzonspor opened the score in the 40th minute with superstar-player Fatih Tekke (top scorer of the Turkish Football league). Anorthosis had an even more difficult task since the 73rd minute when Cypriot mid-fielder Nicos Katsavakis was sent off the pitch with a second yellow card.

In the third qualifying round, Anorthosis will face the Scottish Rangers. The first match will take place on August 10 and the second on August 17.
