Signing of privatisation deal prompts strike at Cyprus airports

Nicosia, Jul 8 (CNA) Hundreds of passengers were left stranded at Cyprus' two airports on Friday after workers staged an unscheduled strike to protest a deal signed between the government and a consortium of companies under which a foreign group will run the airports for 25 years.

Workers, including baggage handlers, walked off from their jobs, saying the deal deprives them of adequate jobs and security and warned that the strike will continue until their demands are satisfied.

Cyprus Government condemns T/C tactics on missing persons issue

Nicosia, Jul 8 (CNA) -- Cyprus Foreign Minister George Iacovou said the Turkish Cypriot side was acting in an arbitrary way as regards the humanitarian issue of missing persons.

Iacovou was commenting information published to the press that 60 remains of missing persons, found in massive graves, were kept in the basement of the so called foreign ministry of the Turkish Cypriot pseudostate, in Cyprus' occupied areas.
