    First services after 1974 at church of founder of Church of Cyprus

    Nicosia Jun 11 (CNA) -- For the first time since the 1974 Turkish invasion of Cyprus, church services were held at the small monastery of the founder of the Church of Cyprus Saint Barnabas, in the northeast part of the island.

    Bishop Trimithountos Vasilios officiated the evening service for todays religious day honoring the founder of the Church of Cyprus, in a somber but emotional atmosphere.

    The Bishop was assisted by other clergy, who led the congregation to prayer.

    Commissioner Kyprianou launches Help campaign in Cyprus

    Nicosia, Jun 11 (CNA) Commissioner responsible for Health and Consumer Protection Markos Kyprianou launched the Help For a Life Without Tobacco campaign today in Nicosia, targeting young people and adults.

    The campaign, which the EU has earmarked a budget of 22 million euros, took off with the unveiling of a giant inflatable carrying the campaigns slogan, while hundreds of orange, white and blue balloons representing the campaigns colours covered the city centre sky as the Commissioner and his assistants were distributing information on how to fight the addiction.
