Nine out of ten Cyprus bathing areas comply with EU criteria

Brussels, May 26 (CNA) -- Approximately nine out of ten (86 per cent) bathing areas in Cyprus comply with bathing water quality levels set out by the European Union (EU).

Stavros Dimas, Commissioner for Environment presented here today the Commission's annual report regarding the compliance with 76/160 Directive on bathing water quality.

A total of 100 bathing areas were monitored in Cyprus, 86 per cent of which complied with the mandatory criteria, whereas 81 per cent complied with the guide values. In both cases the waters are considered as suitable for bathing.

CSE Director General elected at FESE Budget and Audit Committee

Nicosia, May 26 (CNA) -- The Annual General Meeting of the Federation of European Securities Exchanges - FESE has unanimously elected Cyprus Stock Exchange's (CSE) Director General Nondas Cl. Metaxas as a member of the Budget and Audit Committee of the Federation.

According to a CSE press release, the decision to elect Metaxas was taken yesterday during the FESE's General Meeting in Brussels.

Nicosia, May 26 (CNA) Former General Director of Athens News Agency (ANA) Andreas Christodoulides was honoured tonight at a special ceremony by the Cyprus News Agency (CNA) for his contribution to the development of Cyprus' national agency.

During the event Christodoulides gave a lecture regarding the global credibility of the media in our days and the role of journalists in the changing world.
