    Limassol, May 11 (CNA) -- Last year's Cyprus Rally winner and defending FIA World Rally Champion Sebastien Loeb will be hoping to extend his slender one-point lead in the championship when he leads 60 international teams to the ceremonial start of the Cyprus Rally in Limassol on Thursday evening.

    Government works quietly, persistently for results, spokesman says

    Nicosia, May 11 (CNA) -- Government Spokesman Kypros Chrysostomides has underscored the need to prepare very well any fresh attempt to solve the question of Cyprus, noting that an effort should be made to ensure a successful outcome.

    The spokesman would not disclose any details about preliminary consultations for a new round of talks, which according to reports are due to being in New York next week.

    Cyprus government expects to have useful consultations with Rhen

    Nicosia, May 11 (CNA) --The government expects to have ''useful and constructive consultations'' on all issues regarding Cyprus and the European Union with EU Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rhen, Government Spokesman Kypros Chrysostomides has said.

    Responding to questions ahead of Rhen's arrival tonight, the spokesman said there is a general agenda for Rhen's talks here, which will cover all matters concerning Cyprus' ties with the Union.

    New Attorney General sworn in

    Nicosia, May 11 (CNA) - New Attorney General of the Republic of Cyprus Petros Clerides was sworn in today, assuring that he would safeguard the interests of the Republic and its people, in accordance to the Law.

    Speaking during the swearing-in ceremony at the Presidential Palace, Cypriot President Tassos Papadopoulos said the high office of the Attorney General was vested with powers granted by the Constitution and was the guardian of the legitimacy of the state and of the freedom, the rights and the dignity of the citizens.
