Revital Malca, Commercial Attache at the Israeli Embassy, told CNA today that she had contacted the Israeli Embassy in Ankara and informed Israel too about relevant press reports and found out that there is no such thing as regards to an official delegation visiting the occupied north, nor any diplomat is involved. He said there is an agenda for his meeting with Kennedy on May 5 which is part of the regular briefing the US has with regard to developments in Cyprus. ''I expect to have a good discussion. We shall outline our views and assess US intentions with regard to the issue of Cyprus,'' President Papadopoulos said, responding to questions. Asked if he considers the visit the start of new moves on Cyprus, he replied: ''no, I do not think so'', pointing out that ''we know very well that the US has an interest in developments in Cyprus.'' The common position was presented today at the EU-Turkey Association Council, which provided an opportunity to review progress in EU-Turkey relations in view of the expected opening of the accession negotiations in October this year. Luxembourg's Foreign Minister Jean Asselborn, whose country holds the EU rotating presidency, and Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn welcomed recent reforms in Turkey towards alignment with the acquis communautaire but warned that implementation of adopted legislation is a must. They also said Turkey has to sign and put into force the protocol to its customs union agreement with the EU, thus adapting the Ankara Agreement to exend it to all ten new members, including Cyprus. He noted the matter has been brought to the attention of the European Union, adding that recently there has been an increase in illegal building. ''We have been dealing with this issue for some time now, applying legal, diplomatic and political means,'' Papadopoulos said. He stressed that the construction boom is not a consequence of the rejection by the Greek Cypriots of a UN-proposed solution plan.
