    Irish Ambassador dismisses Turkish Cypriot press reports

    Nicosia, Apr 5 (CNA) -- Irelands Ambassador to Cyprus John Swift told CNA that the statements he had made in the Turkish-occupied northern part of Cyprus were misunderstood by the Turkish Cypriot media.

    Meanwhile, Cyprus Government Spokesman Kypros Chrysostomides told his daily press briefing that he had a telephone conversation with Swift who rejected the statements that were carried out by Turkish Cypriot media.

    Signing of protocol also means implementation, says Cyprus government

    Nicosia, Apr 5 (CNA) -- The signing by Turkey of the protocol expanding its customs union agreement with the ten new EU member-states, including Cyprus, also provides for implementation of the protocol and this has been confirmed by the European Commission officials said here Tuesday Government Spokesman Kypros Chrysostomides.

    The Spokesman was invited to comment press reports suggesting that Germany is promoting a formula providing for an extension of at least one year of the protocols implementation after Turkey signs it.

    Health standard very high, says government

    Nicosia, Apr 5 (CNA) -- The standard of health in Cyprus is considered to be very high and compares favorably with that of developed countries, according to 2003 health indicators, released today by the government department of statistics.
