    Larnaca, Feb 14 (CNA) -- Cyprus Foreign Minister George Iacovou said ''we can be proud because the Cypriot citizen has offered more, per capita, than any other European citizen» to relieve the victims of the recent disaster caused by tsunamis in South Eastern Asia.

    Cyprus makes representations to US over illegal visit

    Larnaca, Feb 14 (CNA) -- Cyprus Foreign Minister George Iacovou said the government has made representations to the US over a forthcoming visit to the Turkish occupied areas of the US Commercial Attache at the US Embassy in Ankara, escorting an American business delegation.

    Invited to comment on statements by his US counterpart Condoleezza Rice, that the United States favoured a solution of the Cyprus issue prior to the island's accession to the EU, Iacovou said ''that's no news'', noting that all those involved in the Cyprus issue knew that the US was expecting a settlement.

    Nicosia, Feb 14 (CNA) -- The Meteorological Office at Larnaca International Airport has issued the following weather forecast for Cyprus:

    Tuesday and Wednesday: 15/02/2005 to 16/02/2005 --------------------- The weather on Tuesday and Wednesday will be partly cloudy with local light rain showers and overnight mist patches. Wind will be east to southeast moderate to strong 4 to 5 bf and the state of seal will be moderate but up to rough over the windward areas. The temperature will range between 5 to 16 degrees C inland, 8 to 18 over the coastal areas and 2 to 6 over the mountains.

    Outlook for Thursday and Friday: 17/02/2005 to 18/02/2005 ------------------------------- The weather will be partly cloudy with showers and probable thunderstorms while the temperature is expected to note a decrease.

    Nicosia, Feb 14 (CNA) - Cypriot Government Spokesman Kypros Chrysostomides assured today that there was no intention on behalf of the government to boycott American products.

    Nicosia, Feb 14 (CNA) - Cypriot Government Spokesman Kypros Chrysostomides said today that the position of the government remained that ''we want talks with Turkey to discuss the international aspects of the Cyprus problem and the normalisation of relations in the context of the EU.''

    Commenting on the invitation Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan extended to Cypriot President Tassos Papadopoulos to ''drink the coffee of peace'' with Mehmet Ali Talat, so-called prime minister of the puppet regime in the Turkish occupied areas of the Republic, Chrysostomides said this was an issue discussed during the latest European Council in Brussels.

    DISY leader to brief President on trip to Turkey

    Nicosia, Feb 14 (CNA) - President of rightwing opposition Democratic Rally (DISY) Nicos Anastasiades will be meeting with Cypriot President Tassos Papadopoulos tomorrow morning to discuss the outcome of the former's visit to Turkey and the views of the party.

    Anastasiades said DISY also wanted to brief House of Representatives President Demetris Christofias, Greek Ambassador to Cyprus Christos Panagopoulos and the members of the National Council, at its next meeting, on the results of the party's visit to Turkey at the invitation of ruling Justice and Development Party.

    Talat discusses EU regulations with Barroso

    Brussels, Feb 14 (CNA) - The two regulations for the Turkish Cypriots that are currently before the General Affairs Council, that is the financial aid and the direct trade regulations, the crossing over the ceasefire line in Cyprus and the Cyprus problem were discussed today during a meeting in Brussels between President of the European Commission Jose Manuel Barroso and so-called prime minister of the puppet regime in the Turkish occupied areas of Cyprus Mehmet Ali Talat.

    The Commission's spokeswoman said the two proposed regulations to financially strengthen the Turkish Cypriots and for direct trade with the occupied areas were linked and expressed hope that the General Affairs Council would find a way to break the deadlock.

    Furthermore, the spokeswoman said the Commission supported any initiative to increase the crossing points between the two sides of the divide on the island.

    On the Cyprus problem, she expressed hope that a new initiative would be undertaken, under UN auspices, noting that the Commission was willing to offer its good offices, whenever requested.

    Nicosia, Feb 14 (CNA) - A delegation from the Famagusta Municipal Council departs for Brussels tomorrow in order to promote the positions of the Greek Cypriot side, especially regarding the Turkish occupied town of Famagusta and the government's proposal to return, even just a part of the town, to its legitimate inhabitants.
