Lord Hannay defines ways to help renew efforts on Cyprus

Nicosia, Feb 9 (CNA) - British former special representative for Cyprus Lord David Hannay said today that multiplying the contacts between politicians of Cyprus, Greece and Turkey, continuing Greco-Turkish rapprochement, expressing readiness for compromises as well as a clear indication towards UN Secretary General of the willingness to negotiate on the basis of the Annan plan, should help renew the efforts to reach a settlement of the Cyprus problem.

Speaking at a conference on the Cyprus question organised by Wilton Park, in the coastal town of Larnaca, on behalf of the British Foreign Office, Lord Hannay also said that Turkey's accession to the EU would create those conditions for a successfully consolidated settlement and expressed opinion that there could be changes on UN Secretary General Kofi Annan's plan for a comprehensive settlement to the Cyprus problem.
