    Nicosia, Jan 31 (CNA) -- Cyprus President Tassos Papadopoulos has said that Turkey's obligations towards the European Union must not be linked to the question of Cyprus.

    Papadooulos dismissed suggestions that foreign interested parties in the question of Cyprus are not privy to his positions on changes in a UN-proposed solution plan he wants to introduce so that it meets the concerns of the Greek Cypriot community.

    London, Jan 31 (CNA) -- British Secretary of State Dennis MacShane has expressed Britain's readiness to assist the UN Secretary-General in any new Cyprus settlement process.

    ''In meantime, we will continue to work to implement the EU's policy to end the isolation of the Turkish Cypriots, in line with the appeal of the UN Secretary-General in his Report on his Mission of Good Offices of 8 May 2004'', he added.

    Responding to a question by Labour MP John Lyons at the House of Commons on whether Foreign Secretary Jack Straw will arrange meetings with the other guarantors of Cyprus to discuss the future of the island, MacShane said: ''regularly he meets his Greek and Turkish counterparts.     Education reform programme launched

    Nicosia, Jan 31 (CNA) -- The Cyprus government has launched a most ambitious educational reform programme through dialogue among all interested parties, with a view to turn into reality the vision of a better and more modern educational system that would meet future needs and challenges.

    The dialogue began on Sunday following a lengthy report by a group of ''seven wise men'' on educational reforms relating to governance and administration, restructuring of educational levels from nursery to university and the contents of education in the future.

    Nicosia, Jan 31 (CNA) -- The Meteorological Office at Larnaca International Airport has issued the following weather forecast for Cyprus:

    Tuesday and Wednesday: 01/02/2005 to 02/02/2005 ------- On Tuesday, the weather will be partly cloudy with risk of isolated shower and snow over Troodos. There will be strong westerly wind 5-BF and the state of sea moderate to rough. Temperature will range between (15-7)C inland (17-9)C over east and south coast, (17-12)C over west coast and (5-0)C over Prodromos area.

    On Wednesday, some local showers are expected during day. Showers, local thunderstorms and snowfalls over Troodos are expected during night. The temperature will not change.

    Outlook for Thursday and Friday: 03/02/2005 to 04/02/2005 ------- Mostly cloudy with rainshowers, local thunderstorms and snowfalls over Troodos area. During afternoon and night the precipitation will weaken but snowfalls are expected over areas with altitude 3000 ft and above.
