CMP meetings suspended for time being - Consultations underway

    by Maria Myles

Nicosia, Jan 28 (CNA) -- The Committee of Missing Persons (CMP), which has been meeting over the past several months once a week to make headway in finding the whereabouts of persons listed as missing, has for the time being suspended its regular meetings to allow time for separate consultations between the third party to the CMP and the representatives of the Greek Cypriot and the Turkish Cypriot sides.

According to well informed sources, attention is now focusing on the separate meetings with a view to decide future moves in this latest effort that began last August. The same sources have indicated that the Turkish Cypriot side should now make some kind of move since, so far, neither its attempt to gather information from witnesses on missing Greek Cypriots nor its effort to exhume remains have yielded the desired outcome.
