In statements on the occasion of today's 56th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Chrysostomides said that in the event Ankara receives a date to commence EU accession negotiations, the Cyprus government wants Turkey to be under constant observation by all 25 EU members regarding the protection and respect of human rights, adding that it was not possible for Cyprus to be excluded from the protection of human rights. Commenting on a gallop, according to which 70% of the Cypriot people believe the Republic of Cyprus should veto Turkey's EU course at the December 16 and 17 European Council, President Papadopoulos said, ''I have heard no one in Europe speaking about a veto. They are talking about terms that should be imposed on Turkey to become a member.'' Meanwhile, Government Spokesman Kypros Chrysostomides said the EU's Dutch presidency was pressing on with its meetings on all levels with the other 24 member states in order to arrive at a text on the European Council's conclusions, that would be presented to the heads of state and government.
