Slovakia believes it is high time for Cyprus problem to be solved

    by Maria Myles

Bratislava, Nov 29 (CNA) Slovakia's President Ivan Gasparovicova said he is convinced that the time to solve the Cyprus problem is irrevocably approaching.

In a state banquet hosted by Gasparovicova in honour of Cyprus President Tassos Papadopoulos, the Slovakian President said Cyprus' accession to the European Union ''has shifted the problem to a new legal and political environment, which will surely act as a catalyst in unifying the island''.

Replying, President Papadopoulos said Cyprus anticipates ''Turkey to recognize and accept its obligations deriving from starting accession negotiations with the EU, both collectively and separately with each member state''.
