    AFP Seminar for Med journalists to be held in Cyprus

    Nicosia, Nov 10 (CNA) -- Journalists and IT specialists from 14 national news agencies of the Mediterranean region will participate in a training seminar on ''News Agencies Multimedia Services over the Internet'' to be held in Nicosia on November 11-12.

    The seminar is organised and funded by Agence France - Presse for the Alliance of Mediterranean News Agencies (AMAN), as part of the Alliance's training programme for 2003-2006.

    Cypriot-Greek parliaments sign cooperation protocol

    Athens, Nov 10 (CNA) -- The House Speakers from Cyprus and Greece signed here today a cooperation protocol with a view to enhance further cooperation and coordination between the two parliaments in the political and cultural sphere.

    The speakers of the two Houses agreed that their cooperation will be part of efforts to reach a just, functional and viable solution to the question of Cyprus, in accordance with UN resolutions.

    ''This is a historic moment for the two parliaments, the protocol is practical proof of close and brotherly cooperation. The political will for cooperation has always been there and from now on, we shall act in concert in the political domain, the broad international arena as well as the cultural sector,'' Demetris Christofias, President of the Cyprus House of Representatives said after the signing ceremony.

    Liberals and Democrats for Europe approve amendment on report for T/Cs

    Nicosia, Nov 10 (CNA) -- The group of Liberals and Democrats for Europe, at the European Parliament, approved today a proposal with regard to a resolution on the Turkish Cypriot community, thus amending a draft report prepared by German Euro MP Mechtild Rothe.

    The amendment says that ''any assistance provided shall pay particular attention to the special conditions prevailing in the sealed off area of Famagusta which is inaccessible to both communities for over thirty years, as its return to its lawful inhabitants would facilitate the efforts to reunite Cyprus and foster the economic development of the great Famagusta area and its Turkish Cypriots inhabitants.''
