    Cyprus President begins official visit to Estonia

    Tallinn, Oct 13 (CNA) -- Cyprus President Tassos Papadopoulos began today a three-day official visit to Estonia, where he will have talks with Estonian President Arnold Ruutel.

    After the official welcome ceremony at the Presidential Palace at Kadriorg, the two Presidents will have a tete-a-tete meeting and will then lead their respective delegations to official talks.

    Papadopoulos and Ruutel, who paid a state visit to Cyprus in early January this year, will meet the press, after which President Papadopoulos will go to the Town Hall, to be joined by a business delegation.

    Later on Estonian Prime Minister Juhan Parts will host a lunch for Papadopoulos and in the afternoon the Cypriot President will visit the port of Tallinn.

    In the evening, Estonian President will host a dinner in honour of Papadopoulos, during which both presidents will speak.

    On Thursday morning, President Papadopoulos will meet the speaker of Riigikogu, the Estonian parliament, and will then meet Metropolitan Stephanus, who will present the Cyprus President with the medal of Saint Plato, patron saint of Estonia.

    Tallinn, Oct 13 (CNA) -- Estonian President Arnold Ruutel expressed certainty that Cyprus and Estonia will continue, in the EU framework, to cooperate and support each other, after talks he had here today with Cyprus President Tassos Papadopoulos.

    Ruutel said that as members of the EU it is very important to build close relations, adding that the voice of small countries is heard within the EU.

    Replying to a question on the Cyprus problem, he said that these issues are being discussed in the EU, which is trying to find a solution to them, adding that Estonia supports Cyprus.

    President Papadopoulos expressed the conviction that the two countries' relations will be further developed and that the two countries will work towards this direction within the EU framework.

    As regards the Cyprus problem he noted that the Cyprus government would like to see the resumption of the talks on Cyprus and would like Turkey to respond to the Greek Cypriots' concerns as regards her stand towards Cyprus.

    Tallin, Oct 13 (CNA) - Estonian President Arnold Ruutel met today in Tallin with Cypriot President Tassos Papadopoulos and expressed certainty that the two countries would continue to cooperate and support each other, which would also be to the benefit of the EU.

    President Papadopoulos said the Cypriot government was ''very keen to see a revival of talks'' on the Cyprus problem, adding that ''we would like Turkey to respond to the concerns of the Greek Cypriots regarding its attitude towards Cyprus.''
