    US official arrives for Cyprus problem consultations

    Nicosia, Jul 21 (CNA) -- US Deputy Assistant Secretary for European Affairs Laura Kennedy arrives here tonight to hold consultations on efforts to solve the Cyprus problem with Cypriot leaders.

    A US embassy source told CNA Kennedy, who will be staying on the island for 3 - 4 days, ''will be having discussions on Cyprus and relevant bilateral issues with the government of Cyprus.''

    Cyprus and Vatican Foreign Ministers discuss Cyprus problem

    Nicosia, Jul 21 (CNA) -- Cyprus Foreign Minister George Iacovou and Foreign Minister of the Holy See, Archbishop Giovanni Lajolo, discussed the current phase of the Cyprus problem and prospects of its settlement during a meeting they had yesterday in the Vatican.

    An official press release issued here said Iacovou briefed his Vatican counterpart on efforts to solve the Cyprus problem, explaining the positions of the Greek Cypriot side on various provisions of the Annan plan, rejected by the Greek Cypriot comunity.

    Nicosia, Jul 21 (CNA) -- Russia has welcomed the Confidence Building Measures (CBMs) the Cyprus government announced July 16 in aim to develop security among Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots.

    Moscow expressed hope that there will be new agreed, constructing and manysided fforts from both sides to solve the Cyprus problem.
