    Weather forecast for Cyprus

    Nicosia, Jul 1 (CNA) -- The Meteorological Office at Larnaca International Airport has issued the following weather forecast for Cyprus:

    Friday and Saturday: 02/7/2004 to 03/7/2004 -------------------- Weather will be fine. Locally misty during night and dawn. Winds will be light sea breezes 3BF during morning. Moderate breezes in the afternoon, 4BF and up to 5BF over the exposed areas. Light Northwesterly to Northeasterly, 2-3BF over night.

    The state of sea will be slight and up to moderate over the exposed coasts.

    The temperature will range between 23 to 38 C inland, 21 to 34 over the south and east coast, 19 to 39 C over the west coast and 17 to 30 C over Prodromos areas.

    Outlook for Sunday and Monday: 04/7/2004 to 05/7/2004 ----------------------- The weather will remain fine and the temperature will note a small increase.

    US Ambassador: prospect for reunification in Cypriot hands

    Nicosia, Jul 1 (CNA) -- US Ambassador here Michael Klosson believes that the future of Cyprus lies primarily with the Cypriots themselves but Washington stands ready to assist efforts for a solution, if conditions present themselves.

    In his remarks at the Middle East Symposium organized by the Institute for International mediation and conflict resolution (IIMCR) in Nicosia, Klosson questioned the sincerity of the Greek Cypriot commitment to a federal solution, which he said entails painful compromises and called on the Greek Cypriot side to support the elimination of what he called ''unnecessary restrictions and barriers'' that isolate the Turkish Cypriots.

    House President calls on London to respect international law

    Larnaca, Jul 1 (CNA) -- Cyprus House of Representatives President Demetris Christofias has pointed to the need to respect international law with regard to meetings or talks relating to the question of Cyprus.

    His comments come as British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw prepares to meet later today in London Turkish Cypriot party leader Mehmet Ali Talat, the self-styled prime minister in occupied Cyprus.

    ''We do not oppose meetings between Talat or other party leaders with officials interested in a Cyprus settlement and Britain is one of the key players in the question of Cyprus in general, but such meetings and any talks on the matter must respect international law and order,'' Christofias said.

    Athens, Jul 1 (CNA) - Cyprus' Defence Minister Kyriacos Mavronicolas and Greece's National Defence Minister Spilios Spiliotopoulos exchanged views on the latest Cyprus developments and defence issues during their talks in the Greek capital today.

    Speaking to reporters after his talks with Spiliotopoulos, the Cypriot Minister said ''we found the recognised positive response of the Greek side as regards the big issues which concern us and specific clarifications were given as to the possibilities to improve issues which concern the government.''
