Cyprus Refinery stops refining

Nicosia, Apr 23 (CNA) -- Larnaca-based Cyprus Petroleum Refinery has stopped refining crude oil, following a government decision not to upgrade it to EU standards, instead turning it into a fuel import and storage terminal.

Cyprus Rally preparations well underway

Nicosia, Apr 23 (CNA) -- The 2004 FIA World Rally Championship Cyprus Rally takes place between 13 - 16 May with the participation of 93 crews from all over the world and for the first time in 30 years Turkish Cypriot crews.

All the major teams are competing in this year's Cyprus Rally and current champion Petter Solberg will take to the Cyprus roads once again, along with such famous names as Carlos Sainz, Marcus Gronholm, Markko Martin, and Gilles Panizzi, representing the manufacturers teams of Citroen, Ford, Mitsubishi, Peugeot and Subaru.

Cyprus Foreign Trade Statistics for January 2004

Nicosia, Apr 23 (CNA) - Cyprus' total imports have recorded an increase while exports recorded a decrease in January 2004, compared to the corresponding period of 2003.

According to the monthly report ''Foreign Trade Statistics'' for the period January 2004 released by the Cyprus Statistical Service, total imports (covering imports for home consumption and imports placed into bonded warehouses) in January 2004 increased to 180.1 million pounds, compared to 170.5 million pounds in January 2003.
