    Weather forecast for Cyprus

    Nicosia, Apr 13 (CNA) -- The Meteorological Office at Larnaca International Airport has issued the following weather forecast for Cyprus:

    Tuesday and Wednesday 13/04/2004 to 14/04/2004 -------------------- The weather on Tuesday will be fine with medium and high cloud. The wind will be at first northerly light while by midday gentle to moderate sea brezzes are expected. The state of sea will be smooth to slight.

    Temperature higher than normal expected to reach 31 centigrade inland, 30 over the south and east coastal areas 23 over the west and north coastal areas and the mountains. The weather during night time will be fine. Wind will blow light mainly northerly and the state of sea will be smooth to slight. The temperature will range form 11 to 13 centigrade.

    On Wednesday, the weather will be mainly fine. The sea breeze will be gentle to moderate and the state of sea slight. The temperature is not expected to note any significant change.

    Outlook for Thursday and Friday: 15/04/2004 to 16/04/2004 ------------------------------ On Thuersday, the weather will be mainly fine with cloud inreasing temporarily during afternoon over the mountains. The sea breeze will be gentle to moderate and the state of sea flight.

    The temperature is expected to note a decrease but still more than normal. A further temperature fall is expected on Friday.

    Communications and Works minister resigns

    Nicosia, Apr 13 (CNA) -- Cyprus Communications and Works Minister Kikis Kazamias has resigned.

    Kazamias told the press after meeting today President Tassos Papadopoulos that he submitted his resignation last Saturday but the President did not accept it.

    Minister resigns ''disappointed'' with Papadopoulos' presentation

    Nicosia, Apr 13 (CNA) -- Kikis Kazamias, who resigned his post as Minister of Communications and Works, said his move stemmed not from disagreement with Cyprus President Tassos Papadopoulos' rejection of a UN plan but essentially with the way he presented his views, allowing virtually no room for the opposite opinion.

    Brussels, Apr 13 (CNA) -- A high-level preparatory international donors' conference takes place in Brussels on April 15 to assist the implementation of a Cyprus settlement.

    Cyprus President Tassos Papadopoulos, who has been invited to the conference, will be represented by the Republic's Ambassador in Brussels Theophilos Theophilou and Director of the Planning Bureau Panicos Pouros.

    The Turkish Cypriot side will be represented by so-called prime minister and leader of the Republican Turkish Party Mehmet Ali Talat.

    Around 100 to 150 high level representatives from current and future EU member states, the UN, all current members of the Security Council, OECD members, international financial institutions (IFIs), Gulf Cooperation Council members and other interested parties are expected to attend.

    Nicosia, Apr 13 (CNA) -- Right-wing Democratic Rally party (DISI) President Nicos Anastasiades and Republican Turkish Party leader Mehmet Ali Talat agreed today that the important issue in a Cyprus settlement is not only the terms and provisions of a plan but the good will for the implementation of the solution.

    Nicosia, Apr 13 (CNA) -- Demetris Christofias, General Secretary of the Greek Cypriot AKEL party, and Mehmet Ali Talat, leader of the Turkish Cypriot Republican Turkish Party (CTP), discussed AKEL's suggestion to postpone for some months referenda, in the island's two communities, on a UN plan for a comprehensive settlement of the Cyprus problem.

    Speaking after their meeting, Christofias said the separate but simultaneous referenda, scheduled for April 24, should be postponed so that both communities have time to be informed on the positive aspects of the Annan plan and both approve the settlement at the referenda.

    House unanimously approves bill on referendum

    Nicosia, Apr 13 (CNA) -- The House of Representatives approved today unanimously a proposal for the practical arrangements that would govern the referendum on 24 April on a UN solution plan, the Annan plan, for a comprehensive settlement in Cyprus.

    The proposal was supported by seven out of the eight parliamentary parties. ADIK did not sign the proposal and its representative was not present during the vote at the extraordinary House session.

    United Nations, Apr 13 (CNA) -- UN Secretary General Kofi Annan indicated that if all the parties concerned agree, the UN would have to reflect on the possibility of postponing the referenda, due to take place in Cyprus on 24 April, on a UN solution plan for a comprehensive settlement.

    ''It's really up to the people at this stage. I mean the understanding was that the plan will be put to simultaneous referenda. If one side votes against it the Greek Cypriot going in alone and really we will need to see what happens,'' he said, replying to questions.

    Annan said that there had been a suggestion "by one of the parties" that the referenda be postponed to give them more time to campaign but this had not been taken up by the other parties.

    ''If the Greek and Turkish Cypriots with the support of the governments of Turkey and Greece were to ask for a postponement, that is something that we would have to reflect on. But there has been no such request,'' he added.

    Responding to other questions, the Secretary General said that the Security Council would be briefed on where we are and what had
