[04] President to hold talks in Athens before meeting UN chief1630:CYPPRESS:04President to hold talks in Athens before meeting UN chief Larnaca, Feb 8 (CNA) - Cypriot President Tassos Papadopoulos departed for Athens today, where he will have deliberations with the Greek leadership, in view of a meeting in New York on Tuesday with UN Secretary General Kofi Annan. Speaking on his departure, the President said he would be going to New York with goodwill, aiming at resuming negotiations on the Cyprus problem on the basis of Annan's twice-revised solution plan and reaching a settlement by May 1. He added that he felt strengthened by the backing he is receiving from the Cypriot political leadership and the National Council, top advisory body to the President on the handling of the Cyprus problem, adding that the people of the island can rest assured that his top priority is to serve their interests.
