    United Nations, Nov 18 (CNA) - UN Deputy Spokesperson Marie Okabe referred to UN Secretary General Kofi Annan's report to the Security Council in April, replying to a question by CNA whether there a was a change as to which of the parties involved in the Cyprus issue is responsible for the failure of UN chief's good offices mission.

    ''The answer to that question is contained in the Secretary Generals report of 1st April 2003 which outlines the views of the parties that have not substantially changed since then'', Okabe said.

    Irish Minister hopes for Cyprus settlement prior to EU membership

    Nicosia, Nov 18 (CNA) - Irish Minister of State responsible for European Affairs Dick Roche has expressed hope that the Cyprus problem will be solved during the Irish EU Presidency, prior to Cyprus' accession to the EU on May 1, 2004.

    Roche also expressed surprise for the illegal visit of Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan to the Turkish-occupied areas of Cyprus and noted the importance of the EU position that the Cyprus issue is a serious obstacle for Turkey's accession to the EU.

    United Nations, Nov 18 (CNA) - The settlement of the Cyprus problem, one of the oldest items remaining on the UN agenda is, in its essence, a question of respect and implementation of international human rights norms and the Cyprus government relies heavily on the support and determination of the international community to translate their commitment into action and actively support the Secretary General's mission towards that end, Cyprus' Permanent Representative at the UN Ambassador Andreas Mavroyiannis has said.

    Nicosia, Nov 18 (CNA) - The Cyprus News Agency (CNA) and the Syrian News Agency (SANA) are working on the draft of a new cooperation agreement expected to be signed in 2004, Cyprus Minister of the Interior Andreas Christou said here today, after receiving a courtesy call by SANA General Director Ghazi Al-Deeb, members of the CNA board of directors and CNA Director Themis Themistocleous.
