    Iacovou: Adoption of Denktash's proposal will lead to postponement of talks

    Larnaca, Jul 21 (CNA) -- Cyprus Foreign Minister Georgios Iacovou, who is currently in Brussels to attend the EU General Affairs and External Relations Council, has said acceptance of Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash's "proposal" for the reopening of Nicosia Airport will unavoidably lead to the postponement of the talks for a Cyprus settlement.

    Nicosia, Jul 21 (CNA) -- The Meteorological Office at Larnaca International Airport has issued the following weather forecast for Cyprus:

    Tuesday and Wednesday: 22/07/2003 to 23/07/2003 ------------------------------------------------ Mainly fine weather but partly cloudy over mountains in the afternoon, with risk of isolated showers. Winds will be light to moderate sea breezes and the state of sea slight but locally moderate over south coast, in the afternoon.

    Maximum temperature: 37C inland, around 33C south coastal areas and 21C over west coastal areas.

    Minimum temperature: around 22C inland and over south costal areas and 20C west coastal areas.

    Outlook for Thursday and Friday: 24/07/2003 to 25/07/2003 -------------------------------------------------------- Fine and mostly clear. No significant change in temperature is expected.

    Government criticises Erdogan and Denktash over statements

    Nicosia, Jul 21 (CNA) - The government said here Monday that statements by Ankara and Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash show that Turkey's attitude is becoming more unyielding and Denktash is receiving further support from Turkey.

    Government Spokesman Kypros Chrysostomides said that statements by Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan that the 1974 invasion of Cyprus was a ''peace operation'', show that Turkey's stance is hardening even further while Denktash is being strengthened by Turkey's attitude.

    Finance Ministry presents new system

    Nicosia, Jul 21 (CNA) -- A new software system, presented today to the House Finance Committee for consideration, will simplify bureaucratic procedures, increase productivity and curb overspending in the public sector.
