[01] Agreement on Cyprus resolution achieved at Security Council

Untied Nations, Jun 6 (CNA) A general agreement from all delegations on what the resolution on the renewal of the United Nations Peacekeeping Forces in Cyprus (UNFICYP) will include, ensued during the conclusion of informal deliberations at the Security Council which examined here Friday the UN Secretary-Generals report on UNFICYP.

According to a diplomat of a permanent member state, there was a general agreement on Cyprus from all delegations on what the resolution will include.

[02] Foreign Minister Iacovou to hold high-level meetings in the US

Nicosia, Jun 6 (CNA) Cyprus Foreign Minister, George Iacovou, will hold high-level meetings during his trip to the US next week, under the light of the partial lifting of restrictions in the freedom of movement to and from the Turkish occupied areas and the new Turkish provocations at Strovilia.

Iacovou, who leaves for the US on Sunday, will meet Vice President Dick Cheney, Secretary of State, Colin Powell, National Security Adviser, Condoleezza Rice and the Clerk of the US House of Representatives, Jeff Trandahl.

In New York, apart from meeting UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan and his Special Adviser on Cyprus, Alvaro de Soto, he will meet Deputy SG, Sir Kieran Prendergast, the Czech President of the UN General Assembly, the Russian President of the Security Council and the five permanent members of the Security Council.

He will also meet former US President Bill Clintons Special Emissary on Cyprus, Richard Holbrooke and will also be honored by the World Coordinating Committee, Justice for Cyprus, (PSEKA).
