    Larnaca, Jun 5 (CNA) -- The Cyprus government is making efforts so that a UN Security Council resolution on the renewal of UNFICYP mandate, to be issued this month, will include a reference to Turkish provocations in the southeastern village of Strovilia, President Tassos Papadopoulos said here yesterday.

    Cyprus and Britain sign memorandum on SBA

    Nicosia, Jun 5 (CNA) -- Cyprus and Britain have signed here today a memorandum of understanding that determines their competences and obligations regarding the implementation of the acquis communautaire at the Sovereign Base Area (SBA) in Cyprus, after the island joins the EU in May 2004.

    The memorandum was signed by Foreign Minister Georgios Iacovou and British High Commissioner Lyn Parker and it will be attached to the Protocol on the Sovereign Base Area in Cyprus annexed to the Accession Treaty of Cyprus to the EU, thus concluding the framework of agreements for Cyprus' accession to the Union.

    Brussels, Jun 5 (CNA) --- The European Parliament adopted here today a resolution on Turkey, urging the country to withdraw its troops from northern Cyprus so as to pave the way for the reunification of the island and facilitate the resumption of talks.
