    Government: occupation regime must respect human rights

    Nicosia, May 3 (CNA) -- The Foreign Ministry has asked the UN to make all necessary representations to the occupation regime in the Turkish occupied areas of the Republic to ensure respect of the human rights of Greek Cypriots entering those areas.

    A Foreign Ministry press release said that following instructions from Cyprus President Tassos Papadopoulos, the Ministry ''has protested strongly and denounced to UNIFICYP as inhuman and humiliating the behaviour of the occupation regime towards a number of Greek Cypriots.''

    Greek and Turkish Cypriots continue to cross divide

    Nicosia, May 3 (CNA) - A total of 2,394 Turkish Cypriots had crossed into the government-controlled areas of the Republic of Cyprus by noon today (0900 GMT), after the easing last week of restrictions on the free movement of Cypriots, which the illegal Turkish Cypriot regime in occupied Cyprus had imposed.

    Greek Cypriot side ready to resume negotiations on Cyprus

    Nicosia, May 3 (CNA) - The Greek Cypriot side is ready to resume negotiations for a settlement of the Cyprus problem, Government Spokesman Kypros Chrisostomides told CNA today, commenting on statements made by UN Secretary General's Special Advisor on Cyprus Alvaro de Soto.

    ''The National Council has declared the readiness of the Greek Cypriot side for immediate negotiations,'' Chrisostomides said.
