    UN hopes developments will positively influence reunification

    United Nations, Apr 29 (CNA) -- The UN hopes developments in Cyprus will have a positive bearing in the ultimate goal of reunifying the island.

    Crossing of divide continues

    Nicosia, Apr 29 (CNA) -- Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots resumed the crossing of the divide early Tuesday, with smaller numbers than yesterday and during the weekend.

    Police announced that by 0900 hours local time (0600 GMT) 350 Greek Cypriots and 11 in their cars, have crossed to the Turkish occupied north of Cyprus from the Ledra Palace checkpoint and 255 Turkish Cypriots are visiting the southern government-controlled part of the island on the seventh day since the easing of restrictions on the free movement of Cypriots, by the Turkish occupation regime.

    Cyprus signs MoU for participation in pan-european IDA programme

    Nicosia, Apr 29 (CNA) -- Cyprus has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the European Union for participation in the pan-european programme for interchange of data between administrations (IDA).

    The MoU allows the EU accession countries to join the pan-european electronic infrastructure that the EU institutions and member states use to exchange data for the purposes of applying EU law, enforcing single market rules and supplying e-government services across borders to citizens and businesses.

    Spokesman sees no change in Denktash's policy

    Nicosia, Apr 29 (CNA) - Cypriot Government Spokesman Kypros Chrisostomides said today that there does not seem to be a change in the policy of Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash on the Cyprus problem, because Denktash appears to insist on the continuous upgrading of the illegal occupation regime he set up in Turkish occupied Cyprus.

    Cox says crossings tantamount to people's revolution

    Brussels, Apr 29 (CNA) -- The ''extraordinary events'' taking place over the past few days in Cyprus, with the Turkish occupation regime easing the restrictions on the freedom of movement of Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots to and from the occupied areas, is ''tantamount to a 'people's revolution''', President of the European Parliament Pat Cox has said.

    Cox was speaking at the meeting of the President of the European Parliament and the Presidents of Parliaments of the Accession and candidate states in Brussels today, during which the latest developments regarding the crossings in Cyprus were discussed.

    ''I take a great sense of inspiration from the people's leadership that we are currently witnessing in Cyprus'', he said.

    Cox added that ''the extraordinary events taking place, around the more than 100,000 crossings, are tantamount to a 'people's revolution'''.
