    UN humanitarian officers aim to return to Iraq

    Nicosia, Apr 21 (CNA) -- UN personnel, involved in humanitarian work in Iraq, currently on the island, are hoping to return soon to the country to help with humanitarian issues, Sonia Dumont, press officer for the office of humanitarian coordination for Iraq told CNA today.

    She also said that some of the 200 or so UN officers in Cyprus travel to the region and Iraq but none has permanent residence in Iraq yet because of the existing security situation.

    Nicosia, Apr 21 (CNA) - The government of Cyprus will announce the measures to support Turkish Cypriots when these can be implemented directly by the government, Spokesman Kypros Chrisostomides said today.

    Weather forecast for Cyprus

    Nicosia, Apr 21 (CNA) -- The Meteorological Office at Larnaca International Airport has issued the following weather forecast for Cyprus:

    On Tuesday (April 22) and Wednesday (April 23) the weather will be mainly fine, with local clouds at times. Winds will be southwesterly, light to moderate, over slight to moderate seas.

    Temperatures will drop to a minimum of 10 to 12 degrees Celsius inland and along the coast, and 4 to 6 degrees over the mountains. Maximum temperatures will reach 22 to 24 degrees inland and along the coast, and around 11 to 13 degrees over the mountains.

    On Thursday (April 24) and Friday (April 25) the weather will be mainly fine, with local clouds and light showers in the evening. Temperatures are expected to drop on Friday.

    Chief Negotiator says harmonisation should conclude by November

    Nicosia, Apr 21 (CNA) - Cyprus should respond to the European Union by 27 June on all pending issues concerning harmonisation, while six months before accession on 1st May 2004 it should be ready to function as member of the EU, Cyprus' Chief Negotiator with the EU Takis Hajidemetriou said here today.

    ''If we do not respond, we will face the consequences and measures will be taken which will be painful for the people of Cyprus'', such as preventing the free movement of goods or other measures, he said.
