    Weather forecast for Cyprus

    Nicosia, Apr 10 (CNA) -- The Meteorological Office at Larnaca International Airport has issued the following weather forecast for Cyprus:

    Friday and Saturday: 11/4/2003 to 12/4/2003 ---------------------------

    On Friday, the weather will be fine in the morning and partly cloudy in the afternoon. The maximum temperature will range between (22-24) C inland and coast and over Prodromos area will be around 16C. The minimum will range between (9-11)C inland and coast and over Prodromos area will be around 5C.

    On Saturday, local cloud may give an isolated shower mainly over the mountains. The temperature will decrease be (1-2)C.

    Light to moderate winds are expected on Friday and Saturday. The sea will be slight.

    Outlook for Sunday and Monday: 13/4/2003 to 14/4/2003

    Mainly fine with variable amount of high cloud later in the afternoon. Increase in temperature. On Monday the weather will be partly cloudy with local showers and decrease in temperature.

    Nicosia, Apr 10 (CNA) - Greek Prime Minister and European Council President Costas Simitis arrives in Cyprus on Friday, April 18, for a two-day visit, Government Spokesman Kypros Chrisostomides announced here today.

    Cypriot journalists condemn killings of colleagues in Iraq

    Nicosia, Apr 10 (CNA) - Some 150 journalists and other media professionals protested today outside the US Embassy in Nicosia against the US attacks in Iraq, which resulted in the death and injury of several journalists and cameramen, covering the war there.

    The media representatives, among them CNA reporters, gathered outside the House of Representatives and marched to the US Embassy holding banners with slogans reading ''Do not kill journalists and the right to information'' and ''No to war. Yes to peace and human rights''. Outside the Embassy, they lit candles and chanted slogans against the American operations in Iraq.

    United Nations, Apr 10 (CNA) - UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan said he needed to see a genuine desire and a change on the part of all the parties involved to solve the Cyprus problem.

    Nicosia, Apr 10 (CNA) - China supports efforts by the international community and the UN Secretary General to reach a solution of the Cyprus issue and reassures that as a Permanent Member of the UN Security Council it will continue to play a constructive role in this regard, new Ambassador of The People's Republic of China to Cyprus Limin Zhang stressed here today.

    Presenting his credentials to President of the Republic Tassos Papadopoulos, Zhang expressed his country's hope that ''both communities on the island will cooperate fully with the Secretary-General in pursuit of a negotiated settlement in the spirit of the relevant UN resolutions and on the basis of the Annan peace plan''.

    Italian EU Presidency to contribute towards Cyprus settlement

    Nicosia Apr 10 (CNA) - The Italian EU presidency will do its utmost to contribute towards a settlement of the Cyprus issue, Italian Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs Roberto Antonione told CNA here today.

    Speaking after a meeting with Cypriot Minister of Foreign Affairs Georgios Iacovou, Antonione said his country would study the UN Secretary General's report on Cyprus and reassured that ''Italy will do its utmost to contribute as much as possible for a solution''.
