    Weather forecast for Cyprus

    Nicosia, Mar 20 (CNA) -- The Meteorological Office at Larnaca International Airport has issued the following weather forecast for Cyprus:

    Friday and Saturday: 21/03/2003 to 22/03/2003

    On Friday, there will be prolonged clear periods but some cloud will form at times with a change of local rain over Troodos.

    On Saturday, there will be more cloud with a chance of rain. The winds will be southwesterly fresh, 4 to 5 bf and the sea slight to moderate. Temperatures will range from 5 to 15 inland and from 8 to 17 on the coast.

    Outlook for Sunday and Monday: 23/03/2003 to 24/03/2003

    Unsettled weather conditions with cloud rain and thunderstorms. Snow is expected over Troodos. Temperatures will drop slightly.

    Cyprus allows US to use national airspace (1)

    Nicosia, Mar 20 (CNA) The Council of Ministers approved here Thursday a request by the US to allow Αmerican aircraft to use Cypruss national airspace.

    Government Spokesman Kypros Chrysostomides said the Cabinet examined the US request for facilities, bearing in mind todays events and the unfolding political circumstances.

    He said the cabinet also took into consideration earlier agreements between the two countries, under which Cyprus had granted facilities to the US.

    The Government Spokesman said the facilities would be granted on condition that civil aviation is not jeopardized.

    T/C politician receives letter with suspicious white powder

    Nicosia, Mar 20 (CNA) -- The so-called prime minister of the self-styled Turkish Cypriot regime in the Turkish-occupied part of Cyprus said Thursday he had received a letter containing suspicious white powder and that his secretary had opened it.

    The French News Agency (AFP) reported that Dervis Eroglu said he did not think the substance was anthrax, but added that all necessary measures had been taken.

    AFP quoted sources close to Eroglu as saying that the substance was sent for examination to a laboratory in the government-controlled areas of the internationally-recognized Republic through officials from the UN peace-keeping force in Cyprus.
