Russian FM: no time should be lost for a solution

Nicosia, Jan 25 (CNA) -- Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov has described as ''decisive'' the current phase in the Cyprus peace effort and warned against wasting time in reaching the goal of a comprehensive settlement.

The minister called on the Greek Cypriot and the Turkish Cypriot sides to adopt a constructive approach towards a solution.

UN-Cyprus agree on use of facilities, says Foreign Minister

Nicosia, Jan 25 (CNA) -- Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides has confirmed that the government and the UN have agreed on the use of facilities on the island with regard to a UN humanitarian coordination centre.

UN peace-keeping force in Cyprus (UNIFCYP) spokesman Brian Kelly also confirmed that an agreement has been reached but pointed out that this is part of contingency planning and not a signal of something happening with regard to Iraq.

President: all should gain from a settlement

Nicosia, Jan 25 (CNA) -- President Glafcos Clerides has said that he is seeking to reach a negotiated agreement that would be a "win-win" situation for Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots alike.

The President called on the international community to exert its influence on the Turkish side in a more forceful manner now than it has done in the past to help the latest UN effort towards a solution.
