FM welcomes Clerides' desicion to run for president

Larnaca, Jan 3 (CNA)-- Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides welcomed the President of the Republic Glafcos Clerides' desicion to seek a 16-month term in office with the sole aim to handle the Cyprus problem.

In statements here yesterday Kasoulides added that the 16-month period which President Clerides seeks is ''a reasonable period, until Cyprus' accession to the European Union.''

Nicosia, Jan 4 (CNA) Attorney General Alecos Markides, a close aide to Cyprus President Clerides, announced here Saturday he will run for presidency in next month's elections.
