Nicosia, Oct 3 (CNA) House President Demetris Christofias appealed to the UN and all those involved in the Cyprus problem that any document which might be submitted at the negotiating table be based on the fundamental principles laid down by the UN Security Council and the High Level Agreements on Cyprus.

Speaking after a meeting with Russian Ambassador to Cyprus Vladimir Pavlinov, Christofias said that UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan is trying to ''lift the deadlock'' in the UN-led talks with new meetings he will have today and tomorrow with Cyprus President Glafcos Clerides and Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash in New York.

This, he added, was not feasible during his meeting last month in Paris with the two leaders.

United Nations, Oct 3 (CNA) -- Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides expressed hope today that both sides in Cyprus will demonstrate the necessary will in the UN-led talks, in order to find a solution to the Cyprus problem.

Speaking to the press, at the UN headquarters, Kasoulides said it is possible to get a solution at the end of this year ''if there is political will from both sides''.
