    Nicosia, Jul 29 (CNA) -- Within the framework of its accession negotiations with the European Union, Cyprus will close tomorrow in Brussels half of the Agriculture Chapter and in specific the part of the chapter regarding veterinary and phytosanitary legislation.

    Nicosia, Jul 29 (CNA) -- The Meteorological Office at Larnaca International Airport has issued the following weather forecast for Cyprus:

    Tuesday and Wednesday: 30/7/2002 to 31/07/2002 ----------------------

    Weather: Mainly fine and hot

    Wind: NW'ly to SW'ly moderate to fresh the day NW'ly gentle to moderate during the night.

    State of Sea: Moderate during the day becoming slight to moderate overnight.

    Temperature: Maximum temperature 39-41 Celsius inland, 36 Celsius over south coast and 34 Celsius over west coast.

    Minimum temperature 26-28 Celsius inland and over south coast and 24 Celsius over west coast.

    Outlook for Thursday and Friday: 1/8/2002 to 2/8/2002

    The weather will be mainly fine with patchy cloud around midday. A small probability of showers over Troodos mountains in the afternoon. Temperature will fall gradually.

    Famagusta Municipality asks EU to help reconstruct town

    Nicosia, Jul 29 (CNA) -- The municipality of the Turkish-occupied town of Famagusta has turned to the European Union in order to plan the reconstruction of the town.

    Famagusta Mayor Kikis Kazamias told a press conference here today that the Municipal Council unanimously decided in March to ask the European Union to coordinate efforts in order to plan the reconstruction of Famagusta, starting from the town centre and moving outwards.

    Kazamias said that 28 years after the Turkish invasion and occupation of part of the island, "nothing could remain as it was in 1974, whether this is called town structure or buildings or water and electricity infrastructure etc".

    Government hopes Denktash will discuss territory

    Nicosia, Jul 29 (CNA) -- Government Spokesman Michalis Papapetrou has expressed hope that Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash will discuss the territorial issue of the Cyprus problem in a practical frame of mind, during his next meeting tomorrow with President Glafcos Clerides. Papapetrou noted, however, there are no indications that this will happen.

    Asked about tomorrow's meeting, Papapetrou said "it will focus mainly on the territorial issue", adding that the leaders of the two communities would also continue their discussion on the issue of missing persons, where "all traditional differences of the two sides have resurfaced".

    Nicosia, Jul 29 (CNA) -- Government Spokesman Michalis Papapetrou has said that even if Cyprus were involved in sanctions busting during the UN embargo against Yugoslavia the Cyprus government could not have been aware of this at that time, adding that once Cyprus achieves to substantiate this it will not remain exposed by a July 25 "Financial Times" report.
