    House adopts resolution on the Middle East

    Nicosia, 8 Feb (CNA) -- The plenary of the House of Representatives unanimously approved a resolution expressing concern over the serious deterioration of the situation in the Middle East and condemned the violence exercised by the Israeli forces and Palestinian Islamic militants.

    US Congress asks for 15 million dollars for Cyprus

    Washington, Feb 8 (CNA) -- The American Congress has asked the US Administration to include in its budget 15 million dollars for Cyprus, to be used in various programmes.

    Specifically, within the framework of "International Security Aid" Congress has stated that not less than 15 million dollars from the appropriations for this purpose should be allocated to Cyprus, to be used only for scholarships, administrative support of the scholarship programme, bicommunal programmes and measures which have as their target the reunification of the island and are drawn up with the aim of lessening tension and promoting peace and cooperation between the two communities in Cyprus.

    Nicosia, Feb 8 (CNA) - Hungary supports a solution of the Cyprus problem based on the relevant UN resolutions, which provide for a bizonal bicommunal federation with a single sovereignty, a single international personality and a single citizenship, as well as the conclusions of the Helsinki European Council, according to which a solution of the Cyprus problem is not a precondition for the accession of the island to the EU.
