Police and reporters ready for Clerides-Denktash dinner

Nicosia, Dec 29 (CNA) - Police, both uniformed and in civilian attire, are covering every nick and corner of the route Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash will be taking, after crossing into the free areas of the Republic tonight, to have dinner with President Glafcos Clerides.

The street in which President Clerides' home is situated has been cut off by Police on both ends, while seven women in black, wives and mothers of persons missing since the 1974 Turkish invasion of the island, are standing there, holding photographs of their loved ones and placards reading "As a wife and a mother I have every right to know what happened to my missing husband and son".

Meanwhile, 84 Turkish Cypriot and Turkish reporters, representing all Turkish Cypriot and Turkish media, crossed earlier over into the free areas to cover the event, through the Ledra Palace checkpoint, where there is also a heavy police presence. The reporters have already arrived at President Clerides' home.

They have been guided to a special area for reporters near the house.
