    Nicosia, Nov 27 (CNA) -- Cyprus is one of 30 countries that have signed the international convention against crime through the Internet, aimed at preventing crime committed through electronic means.

    Bandler hopes December meeting will advance settlement prospects

    Nicosia, Nov 27 (CNA) -- US Ambassador to Cyprus Donald Bandler expressed today hope that a meeting between President of the Republic Glafcos Clerides and Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash, scheduled for December 4, will advance the possibility of a settlement in Cyprus.

    National Council welcomes Clerides' response to Denktash

    Nicosia, Nov 27 (CNA) -- Cyprus' National Council (top advisory body to the President on the handling of the Cyprus question) welcomed today unanimously President Clerides' decision to accept an invitation for a face-to-face meeting by Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash, scheduled to take place here on December 4.

    After a three-hour long meeting, Government Spokesman Michalis Papapetrou said that decisions were taken in view of next week's encounter, noting that Council members reviewed the latest developments in the Cyprus problem, outlined the positions and tactics that the Greek Cypriot side will follow at the meeting and exchanged views on the general policy with regard to the Cyprus question.

    Cyprus' and Russia's defence ministers meet in Moscow

    by Costas Stavrinos Moscow, Nov 27 (CNA) - Russian Defence Minister Sergei Ivanov said today that Russia would never welcome the threat of violence, especially the "immediate use of military violence in solving disputes". Ivanov was commenting on Turkish threats to annex the occupied areas of Cyprus in case the island is granted EU membership.
