[03] Cypriot FM meets counterparts in view of Islamic Conference

by Maria Myles New York, Nov 15 (CNA) -- Cyprus Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides has had a number of meetings with his counterparts from many Islamic countries, as part of Cyprus' concerted effort to avert any unpleasant development with regard to the content of a communique, the Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC) is due to issue today.

Turkey's effort to introduce into the communique concealed terms or phrases which would present the illegal existence of the Turkish Cypriot regime in the areas of Cyprus occupied by Turkish trooops since 1974 as a fait accompli seem to have failed.|

[04] Cyprus to serve as bridge between NAM and EU

by Maria Myles New York, Nov 15 (CNA) -- UN-led efforts to find a comprehensive settlement in Cyprus are faced once again with the all too familiar scenario of intransigence and obstinacy on the part of the Turkish side, Cyprus Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides told here yesterday a Non- Aligned Movement (NAM) Foreign Minister's meeting.

Expressing gratitude and support to the Movement, he assured member states that Cyprus has no intention of abandoning its traditional bonds with NAM but instead wishes to act as a bridge between the NAM and the European family of nations, once it joins the European Union.|
