    [01] Cyprus to host European Conference on Genetics

    Nicosia, Nov 1 (CNA) -- Cyprus will host the sixth European Conference of National Ethics Committees on "Genetics and Society, opportunities and threats", which is organised by the Council of Europe and will be held in the south- western coastal town of Paphos between 11 and 13 November.

    Around 120 distinguished scientists from National Ethics Committees from member states of the Council of Europe (CoE) as well as observers from other countries and Committees of the CoE and the European Commission will participate in the Conference, which will deal with issues such as genetic testing in employment, public health, cloning, prenatal screening, genetic examination of human genome and patenting DNA and proteins.| CNA/AAR/RM/2001

    [02] Cyprus: Airport workers strike today

    Nicosia, Nov 1 (CNA) -- Over 40 flights scheduled to arrive in or depart from Cyprus airports were affected today as airport workers stage an allout strike to protest against the government's plans to call in private investors to run the Paphos and Larnaca airports by the Build - Operate - Transfer method.

    Members of three Trade Unions, PEO, SEK and civil servants' Union PASYDY called today a strike between 3pm and 7pm at Larnaca airport and between 1pm and 7 pm at Paphos airport, thus affecting an overall of 43 flights. CNA/MAN/SS/RM/CST/2001

    Nicosia, Íïv 1 (CNA) - The Meteorological Office at Larnaca International Airport has issued the following weather forecast for Cyprus:

    On Friday the weather will be fine and mostly sunny. The winds light. The temperature between 13C minimum and 25 maximum. Over the coast and between 11C minimum and 24C maximum. Inland on Saturday will be sunny at times but isolated showers.

    Outlook for Sunday and Monday: 04/11/2001 to 05/11/2001

    The weather will be sunny at times but isolated thundery showers too. The temperature between 12C Minimum and 24 maximum. Over the coast and between 11C minimum and 22C maximum inland.

    [04] Cyprus: House has approved government's Bill for airports

    Nicosia, Nov 1 (CNA) -- The House Plenary today approved a government bill providing for the expansion and management of airports by private investors.

    The bill was approved by 32 MPs of the Democratic Rally, Democratic Party, the Social Democrats Movement, the New Horizons, ADIK and the United Democrats, while 19 MPs of left-wing AKEL as well as Environmentalists Movement's MP rejected it. CNA/NMA/RM/2001
