    [01] German Labour Minister - Cyprus - Visit

    Nicosia, Oct 29 (CNÁ) -- German Minister of Labour and Social Affairs Walter Riester arrived early this morning in Cyprus for a three-day official visit at the invitation of Cyprus Labour and Social Insurance Minister Andreas Moushiouttas.

    The two ministers will hold official talks this afternoon on issues pertaining EU enlargement and Cyprus' harmonisation with the acquis communautaire on social policy and employment issues. They will also exchange views on ways to further develop cooperation, which started in 1996 with the signing of a relevant protocol. | CNÁ/GP/2001

    [02] President Clerides - Postponement of meetings

    Nicosia, Oct 29 (CNA) -- President Glafcos Clerides postponed today his schedule of meetings because of his brother's death early this morning.

    Xanthos Clerides died in the early hours of today at the age of 78, his doctor cardiologist Pampis Nicolaides told CNA today, adding that the late Xanthos was admitted to the private clinic "Evangelistria" last Frdiay suffering from serious problems with his lungs.

    No date has been fixed for the funeral at this stage.

    [03] President Clerides - Brother - Funeral

    Nicosia, Oct 29 (CNA) -- The funeral of Xanthos Clerides, brother of the President of the Republic Glafcos Clerides, will take place tomorrow morning at 11, from the Church of Constantinou and Eleni, in Nicosia, it was officially announced today.

    Xanthos, a barrister at law by profession like the President himself, died early this morning at a private clinic at the age of 77.|

    [04] President Clerides - Greece - Congratulations

    Nicosia, Oct 29 (CNA) -- President Glafcos Clerides has expressed his gratitude to Greece for the "valuable and multifaceted help" in Cyprus' effort to find a negotiated settlement of the Cyprus question and its bid to join the European Union.

    The President also said that Cyprus looks up to Greece and its resistance to fascism in the 1940s and draws courage and tenacity to continue its own struggle for freedom and justice and rid Cyprus of the 27-year-old Turkish occupation of part of Cyprus.
