    [02] German Minister - Cyprus - Visit

    Nicosia, Oct 27 (CNÁ) -- German Minister of Labour and Social Affairs Walter Riester arrives Monday in Cyprus for a three-day official visit at the invitation of Cyprus Labour and Social Insurance Minister Andreas Moushiouttas to discuss issues pertaining EU enlargement and Cyprus' harmonisation with the acquis communautaire on social policy and employment issues.

    Delegations of the two ministries will discuss issues concerning their further cooperation, which started in 1996 with the signing of a relevant protocol.| CNÁ/MK/GP/2001

    1250:CYPRESS:03 House President - Laparoscopic cholocystectomy Nicosia, Oct 27 (CNA) -- Cyprus House President Demetris Christofias was admitted today in Nicosia's General Hospital where he underwent a laparoscopic cholocystectomy.

    Hospital sources told CNA the cholocystectomy was successful and Christofias will most probably leave the hospital tomorrow and stay home for one week. The operation lasted for 1 and a half hours.

    [04] Britain - Turkish occupied areas - Money laundering

    London, Oct 26 (CAN) -- British Minister for Europe Peter Hain said there is evidence that Turkish occupied areas of Cyprus are vulnerable to exploitation by those involved in money laundering and assured that British authorities will continue to remain alert to the activities of financial institutions in the area.

    Answering a question by Labour MP Andrew Dismore, in the House of Commons, Hain said that the self-styled Turkish Cypriot regime in the occupied areas "has taken some steps to combat this" and noted that, as the regime is not internationally recognized, except by Turkey, it never has been formally assessed by any of the leading global anti- money laundering organisations.
